Pres. Moon promises deregulation of big data industry, pledges more support

South Korean President Moon Jae-in is continuing to lay out his plans to get rid of red tape holding back the economy.
Visiting a campus for startups near central Seoul, the President said alleviating regulatory obstacles in the big data industry would help both consumers and businesses.

"The future of our innovative growth lies in data. Regulations on the data industry urgently need to reduced for the development of new industries and technologies. I again want to highlight the importance of speed and timing."

The President also promises to put nearly 900-million U.S. dollars into the data industry next year, stressing the need to quickly develop it as a new industrial sector and engine for growth.
He also added, however, that the government will work to protect personal data by improving security measures.
