Neil Simon, 'The King of Comedy,' Dead at 91 Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Neil Simon has died at the age of 91. “The King of Comedy” passed due to complications with pneumonia. He died with family and close friends by his side at New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. Simon was admitted to the hospital two days prior. Simon wrote multiple broadway hits, including The Odd Couple and Lost in Yonkers. He was one of American theater's most successful and prolific playwrights. Simon was one of the only living playwrights to have a Broadway theater named after him.
