Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee passes away at 93. Hindustan Times takes a trip down memory lane to remember memorable moments with Vajpayee. AB Vajpayee took oath as Prime Minister in 1996 but his government was toppled barely 13 days later after a no confidence motion. He came back to power in 1998. During his 13 month tenure as prime minister, Vajpayee inaugurated the historic Delhi Lahore bus service. In the year 2000, AB Vajpayee went on to address a joint session of the U.S Congress. Vajpayee served as the Member of Parliament for Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh until 2009 which is when he retired from active politics due to health reasons. Vajpayee was admitted to AIIMS on June 11 with kidney tract infection, chest congestion, urinary tract infection and low urine output, indicating impaired kidney functions. He was put on slow dialysis in June to help his kidneys heal and was being treated in the intensive care unit of the cardiothoracic and neuroscience tower at AIIMS since then.
