High-tech 'Warrior Platform' gear to boost S. Korea combat capabilities

The South Korean army introduced a concept last October, called the "five game changers" ...as a way to make the military stronger.
One of those measures is the so-called "warrior platform,"… which applies cutting-edge technology to the combat gear... worn by individual soldiers.
Kan Hyeong-woo reports.
The South Korean army is getting ready for the future,… developing the so-called "warrior platform" to enhance the individual soldier's combat ability.

As a part of the Army's "five game changers" plan, the warrior platform gives soldiers high-tech battle gear,… including advanced bulletproof vests and enhanced rifle attachments.

To show how the new equipment can improve a soldier's ability to shoot, the Army invited a group of reporters to the range.

"The newly upgraded parts here give us a glimpse of what soldiers in the Korean Army will look like in the near future."

According to the Army's analysis, daytime shooting accuracy improved by 60 percent with the "warrior platform" supplements,... including the dot-sight, 3X magnifier and vertical grip. Nighttime shooting accuracy also went up by 90 percent through the use of night-vision goggles and target pointers.

"The warrior platform aims to maximize each soldier's battle readiness while improving their chances of survival. By doing so, we aim to increase the combat ability of an individual warrior by three to four times."

As South Korea's defense ministry works to create a smaller, more efficient military, the Army plans to equip all of its infantry units with advanced battle gear by 2022.
