A wall of smoke and flames rose above a structure in Lake County, California on August 6, as the fire grew into one of the largest in California history.The Ranch Fire, which is burning north of Clear Lake in Lake County covered 273,664 acres on August 6, and was only 30 percent contained, according to the Office of Emergency Services.Officials with Cal Fire in Mendocino said access to the area at the northern edge of the fire was limited, making it difficult for fire crews to reach the area.On August 7, the Mendocino Complex fire, including the Ranch and River fires, which are burning around Clear Lake, became the largest fire in California since accurate measurements began in 1932, the Cal Fire said.
