날씨: 사상 최악 폭염, 내일 더위 비슷해

Now we turn to Michelle Park at the weather center for the latest updates. Michelle, Korea experienced the worst heat wave in one-hundred and eleven years today.

That's right Daniel, as we stepped into August, readings across the country reached levels never seen before since 1907 when weather data started being compiled. The daytime high in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do Province went all the way up to 41 degrees Celsius, while Seoul also saw a record-breaking high of 39.6 degrees. The last time the capital experienced such sizzling temperatures was in 1994 when the mercury reached 38.4 degrees.

The hot conditions are far from cooling down. If anything, they are intensifying... especially in the western part of the country because of a hot high-pressure front that's blanketing the Korean peninsula in addition to warm easterly winds. Tomorrow is going to be as hot as today in Seoul while the southern regions will be relatively cooler.

Seoul starts the day sweating at 29 degrees Celsius, Daegu, and Gyeongju looking a bit better at 25 degrees.

The mercury in the capital area tomorrow will pretty much soar like today, reaching a daily high of 39 degrees. Busan and Jeju are looking better with readings in the low to mid-thirties.

The weekend is not going to be optimal for outdoor activities as heat wave warnings will still be in place in addition to high UV ray and ozone levels. By next week, Seoul should see the highs a few notches down.

I'll leave you with the weather conditions around the world.
