The footwear market is one that is fickle. The shifting price on sneakers once they hit the reseller sector is an example of the irregularity of a product’s worth, while the uneven distribution of credit and wage by footwear brands to their employees is also a reoccurring topic of discussion. Committed to discovering untapped talent from around the world, Rooy, a Seattle-based sneaker platform, splits royalties with its designers who, after bringing their ideas to fruition, receive payment based on how well their shoes sells. In the clip above, filmed in Seoul, Ray of Rooy, Inc. breaks down the process of launching an original shoe design, while French footwear designer Arsen Rock lets us in on the design motif behind the Cosmic. A sneaker which blends Eastern and Western sensibilities in one, the basketball-inspired lace-up high top is crafted with luxurious full-grain leather, and rounded off with an original, yet classic white sole. The result is a dynamic mock-up which can be styled with both high-end and street looks. Check out the monochromatic design above, and learn more about Rooy via its webpage.
