Tucked away on LA's Melrose Ave. lies SOHO DESIGN HOUSE, a master rug-maker whose handmade, limited edition masterpieces celebrate interior design and art by form and function. SOHO DESIGN HOUSE's hallmark lies within its specialty in contemporary graffiti art, where the dynamic iconography of names like Ron English and CYRCLE. are often the most requested custom designs.

"I understood rugs. And I love the art. But also there was a lapse in the marketplace," comments SOHO founder and design graduate Jacob Brahman on the niche industry his business sits in; "you could go anywhere around the world and you wouldn't see something like this." Not one to compromise quality, Brahman traveled to Nepal in search of a particular weaving style that would best translate his intended designs. Today, he supports the community by sponsoring a soccer team and after-school care for the weavers' children. The humble boutique operates on a simple agenda: artists and patrons submit images, which are then blown up to rug size and drawn out onto graph paper before each carpet is woven, line by line, in a process that takes about six months to complete.
