Our next RETROSPECT of adidas footwear brings us back to the archives of Robert Brooks, this time showcasing the (at the time) futuristic Micro Pacer. This technical running model was first seen in 1984 and contained a micro-computer at the tongue which was linked to a sensor at the toe portion of the sole, used for measuring stride, total distance and calories burned. Not only was the incorporation of electronics into the shoe impressive, but the trainer came in a colorway that was far ahead of its time — metallic silver with three blue stripes and red at the outsole, and it also featured a small pocket at the right foot for storing locker keys or coins. It should be noted that these bad boys were one of the first pairs of trainers in the United States to retail over $100 USD. Complete with instructions, the Micro Pacer stands testament to adidas' ongoing quest to push the innovative envelope to the next level.
