Shoko Asahara, the leader of the doomsday cult behind the deadly 1995 nerve gas attack on the Tokyo subway system.... was executed by hanging on Friday.
Asahara was the head of the Aum Shinrikyo cult that carried out the sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway system.... that killed 12 people and injured more than 6-thousand others.
Tokyo District Court first handed down the death penalty to Asahara in 2004,.... and the Supreme Court finalized that decision in 2006.
In addition to Asahara,... 6 former members of the cult have also been executed.
