Indianapolis Church Puts Chain-Link Fence Around Jesus In Protest Of Immigration Policy

Christ Church Cathedral of Indianapolis has placed Jesus in a chain-link cage, or, as the church calls it, “ICE detention.”

A church in Indianapolis is making its position on the Trump administration's immigration policy quite clear, reports the Indianapolis Star.  Christ Church Cathedral has placed Jesus, Mary, and Joseph statues in a chain-link cage, or, as the church calls it, "ICE detention."  Steve Carlsen, the dean of the church, told WRTV: "They were a homeless family with nowhere to stay. I think our faith tells us where we need to be. The fact that it's controversial isn't because I want to be controversial. What's controversial is that we're turning away from the values that should be guiding us."  He also suggested that the church will keep the display up until the administration changes its detention policy.
The policy sparked a number of protests around the country over the weekend.
"Animated by what they view as the cruel treatment of migrants seeking refuge in the United States from violence in their home countries, the crowds turned out Saturday bearing homemade signs that read 'Abolish ICE' — the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency — and 'Zero tolerance for family separation,'" the New York Times reported.
