"아시아의 평화 재정립" 제 13회 제주포럼 개회식
Opinion leaders, diplomats and government officials have gathered on Korea's southern resort island of Jeju to exchange ideas on international cooperation and peace on the peninsula, among other topics.

South Korea is ready to end the decades-long division on the Korean Peninsula.
Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon said Wednesday, at the opening of the 13th Jeju Forum, that the country is seeking international cooperation to build a permanent peace between the two Koreas.

"The division of the Korean Peninsula was not the choice of our people but the result of Japanese occupation and the Cold War framework. We need to overcome this with the help of the international community."

The forum has come at a timely moment, following the two inter-Korean summits and the subsequent North Korea-U.S. summit that produced a joint statement between Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump on denuclearization and improving bilateral ties.
So much of the discussions during this three-day forum are dedicated to the question of maintaining the current momentum towards peace on the Korean Peninsula and turning that momentum into a permanent peace.

This year's Jeju Forum is expected to see the biggest turnout yet with more than five and a half thousand people from 70 different countries.
The forum runs through Thursday.
