Eight pedestrians injured by taxi driven onto Moscow sidewalk

Police in Moscow are questioning the driver of a taxi that drove up onto the pavement on Sunday and hit several people.
At least 8 pedestrians are reported to have been injured, but none of them critically.
Security camera footage from the scene show the cab veering out of traffic, where other cars had come to a stop, then accelerating into the pedestrians and finally hitting a lamppost.
The driver fled the scene pursued by several passers-by.
He is said by police to be a 28-year-old national from Kyrgyzstan.
A motive has been hard to pinpoint.
According to the mayor of Moscow, he lost control of the vehicle,... and Russia's Interfax news agency quoted an unnamed source saying he had fallen asleep at the wheel.
The local traffic authorities say he was not drunk.
But some media reports have eyewitnesses saying they think the man acted deliberately.
