WWII veteran reveals secret to his old age is going to the gym every day
  • 5 years ago
A 98-year-old WW2 veteran who smokes and drinks daily has revealed the secret to his old age - going to the gym FIVE TIMES a week. Great-granddad John Hamilton started working out aged 85 after giving up golf because it was “too strenuous”. The ex-Army major began with a gentle hour-long routine, but he now gets sweaty for 90 minutes at 8am every day from Monday to Friday. A typical session sees him push his limits with 20 minutes on an exercise bike and 15 on the treadmill before finishing each workout with 400 stomach crunches. The sprightly pensioner, who had a knee replacement seven years ago, eats a healthy diet but has smoked a pipe since the age of 18 and enjoys a glass of wine every night. He puts his rippling muscles and youthful looks down to his active lifestyle - and reckons that if he didn’t go to the gym he’d be dead.
