中왕이 워싱턴서 "美, 비핵화 과정서 北 '정당한 안보우려' 해소해야"

China's top diplomat visited Washington to meet with his American counterpart.
The duo had similar views on most fronts,... but differed slightly on how to pressure North Korea towards denuclearization.
Park Hee-jun has the highlights from their session together. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi have reaffirmed their similar, but somewhat different stances toward North Korea's denuclearization.

During a joint news conference following their meeting in Washington on Wednesday, local time, Pompeo said that,... until it sees complete and verifiable denuclearization, the U.S. will continue its pressure on the North.

"Discussed our firm commitment to maintain pressure on North Korea and to continue fully enforcing all relevant U.N. Security Council resolutions related to North Korea until we see and achieve the complete verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."

But Wang said,... that although China is fully committed to North Korea's denuclearization, both Washington and Beijing must take into account security guarantees for the regime.

"We believe that in achieving the process or the goal of denuclearization,... it's necessary to address the legitimate security concerns of North Korea at an appropriate time. And along with the realization of denuclearization, it's important to establish a long term and effective peace mechanism on the Korean Peninsula."

The two diplomats agreed on the importance of the North Korea-U.S. summit next month in Singapore taking place.
When asked about the Kim-Trump talks, Pompeo said that, despite the uncertainties,... he's hopeful that the summit will take place,... and that President Trump will be "absolutely prepared" for the meeting.
Wang also said that China looks forward to seeing the summit happen and be successful,... and that if the U.S. wishes to make history and solve the North Korea problem-- now would be the time.
