North Korea's goal is to become nuclear weapons state: Thae Yong-ho

One of the most prominent North Korean defectors in the South is raising some red flags over Pyongyang's real intentions regarding its denuclearization.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday to promote his autobiography, Thae Yong-ho said the regime's ultimate goal is to become a nuclear weapons state.
Thae said he thinks it's more likely the regime will move toward sufficient, verifiable, irreversible dismantling, which is to sufficiently reduce threats from nuclear weapons, rather than seek complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantlement.
Thae is a former London-based diplomat who famously defected to South Korea with his family two years ago.
