Cars outside a Hobart hospital were swept away by flash flooding on May 10 after a cold snap brought torrential and fierce winds to Tasmania.The Hobart Mercury reported reported the Royal Hobart Hospital was placed into emergency footing as severe weather caused damage to the building’s emergency department and day surgery.Hundreds of calls for help were made on Thursday night after an onset of cold air blowing from Antarctica moved north and caused temperatures to plummet across the country’s east coast. By Friday morning more than 13,000 homes were without power and closures were experienced by roads, schools and university campuses across the apple island, SBS reported.
