U.S. sanctions Iranian currency network connected to Iran's Revolutionary Guard
  • 6 years ago
The United States has imposed its first sanctions since President Trump's announcement to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal.
The U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Thursday against six individuals and three companies it said had funneled millions of dollars to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard's elite Qods Force.
It said they were operating an illegal currency-exchange network in the United Arab Emirates, and accused Iran's central bank of helping the group to access U.S. dollars held in foreign banks.
The Quds Force has been designated by Washington as a supporter of terrorism since 2007.
