Macron Urges Against Nationalism In Apparent Jab At Trump

French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday urged against the path of nationalism.

French President Emmanuel Macron got big laughs on Wednesday when he referenced his apparent bromance with President Trump.  Speaking to the members of U.S. Congress, Macron told a story about the time Benjamin Franklin and French philosopher Voltaire met in Paris.  Macron said that according to former President John Adams, "they embraced each other by hugging one another in their arms and kissing each other's cheeks.  "It can remind you of something," the French president also noted. The greeting shared by Voltaire and Franklin does sound a lot like the affection Macron and Trump have shown for each other in recent times. The Washington Post notes that while some accept the apparent mutual fondness as authentic, others have called the bromance an obvious and ongoing game of "one-upmanship."  French philosopher Michel Onfray is among the latter, telling CNN, "It's just a battle of egos! Two great narcissists who adore themselves, they love themselves. It's all a communications strategy."
