After clinching the gold in 69 kg category in weightlifting, Poonam Yadav returned home to a warm welcome. Her family and other villagers received her with a lot of pomp and show. Poonam lifted a total of 222kg (110 kg + 122 kg) to take India to its 5th gold medal.This came after a lot of financial struggles that the Varanasi girl had to face. Poonam’s father had to sell his buffalo to send her to the Glasgow CommonwealthGames in 2014. But she made him proud after winning a bronze medal in 63kg category in Glasgow and later a silver in 2017 Commonwealth Championship in the 69 kg category.
