Facebook under pressure by U.S. FTC, EU over personal data leak
  • 6 years ago
Facebook is being pursued by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission over a massive data leak.
The FTC is probing how Cambridge Analytica, a British data analytics firm hired by Donald Trump's presidential campaign, obtained the personal data of 50 million Facebook users.
It is reviewing whether Facebook violated a 2011 consent decree regarding the firm's privacy protections, and whether Cambridge Analytica used the data for political gains.
U.S. and EU lawmakers have also demanded Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg provide answers as to why his firm failed to inform its users of the data leak.
Both firms deny any wrongdoing.
