S. Korea imports more beef from U.S. than from Australia for first time in 14 years

And amid fears of a trade war,... here in South Korea,... U.S. beef imports shot up last year,... overtaking Australian beef to regain number-one status in the Korean market.
This comes 14 years after an outbreak of mad cow disease in the U.S. had led to a ban on American beef exports.
The Korea Rural Economic Institute says,... U.S. beef shipments jumped 13-point-five percent last year to 177-thousand tons, while Australian beef shipments decreased by around four percent to about 172-thousand tons.
Analysts point to Australia's drought in 2017,... and a tariff gap between the U.S. and Australia.
In 2018, American beef will attract a 21-point-three percent tariff, compared to Australian beef at 26-point-six percent.
