White House officials defended Trump aide despite abuse allegations
  • 6 years ago
The White House is in hot water over reports that some senior aides to President Trump withheld knowledge of a domestic violence allegation against a top White House staffer.
Former Staff Secretary Rob Porter was accused by two of his ex-wives of physical and verbal abuse.
He has denied the allegations, but resigned on Wednesday.
Officials in the West Wing, including Chief of Staff John Kelly, were said to have known about the accusations, but did nothing to remove him.
They were even reported to have helped him secure his senior position in the White House and defended him when the allegations surfaced earlier this week.
But, Kelly said he was shocked by what he called the new allegations against Porter, adding "there is no place for domestic violence in our society."
