The US Coast Guard suspended its operations to break up ice along the Kennebec River in Maine on Tuesday, January 30, when problematic ice hadn’t budged. The jams had triggered flooding in Augusta and Hallowell, a news report said.The guard encountered challenging ice conditions during its seven-day operation, and some of the targeted ice hadn’t broken free and traveled southward.The group of four ships, three 65-foot cutters and one 140-foot icebreaker, had made it to the Richmond-Dresden bridge on Sunday, but they were not able to make it further north to Gardiner, the intended endpoint for the operation.
