"A story in the @washingtonpost that I was close to 'rescinding' the nomination of Justice Gorsuch prior to confirmation is FAKE NEWS," Trump wrote. "I never even wavered and am very proud of him and the job he is doing as a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. The unnamed sources don't exist!"
In its reporting, the post cited eleven sources and stated that Trump "talked about rescinding Gorsuch's nomination, venting angrily to advisers after his Supreme Court pick was critical of the president's escalating attacks on the federal judiciary in private meetings with legislators."
Politico reported in February that among those meetings was one Gorsuch had with Senator Richard Blumenthal, who later reported that the nominee had called Trump's criticisms of the "so-called judge" who blocked the travel ban "disheartening" and "demoralizing."
The Post noted that, according to an inside source, those comments made Trump concerned about the then-nominee's loyalty and "tempted" to pull the nomination from Gorsuch and give it to another judge.
