Facing North Korea Threats, Guam Governor Urges Calm, But Says US Won't Tolerate Aggression

Governor of Guam Eddie Baza Calvo urged calm on August 11 as tensions rise between the US and North Korea, saying the island was “safe and secure,” and the threat level had not changed.He urged people to “prepare for any eventualities,” however, saying the local typhoon season had just started.The statement followed a warning from US President Donald Trump that the US would rain down “fire and fury” if North Korea continued a series of nuclear and missile technology tests. North Korea in turn announced a plan to target the US territory of Guam.Calvo said he agreed with the President’s statement, if not his wording, and said, “if there is an attack on any American soil… it would be met with an overwhelming response.”Lieutenant Governor Ray Tenorio, speaking at the same press conference, cautioned people about sharing or depending on information from unofficial sources.
