Breast cancer: Mom posts photo online to highlight uncommon breast cancer warning sign

HULL, UNITED KINGDOM — A mother-of-three with breast cancer posted a photo of her dimpling breast on social media as a reminder to women about this uncommon sign of the disease.

Usually, the most common indicator of breast cancer is a lump on the breast. However, Sherrie Rhodes, 37, noticed two unusual dimples on the side of her right breast.

Having seen pictures of similar symptoms on Facebook, Rhodes started to worry. She was referred to a breast clinic, where she was told that the dimpling on her breast was indeed a symptom of cancer.

According to the American Cancer Society, lumps are the main sign of breast cancer, but other changes in the breasts such as redness or skin irritation, discharge or pain around the nipples, or as in Rhodes’ experience, dimpling, could also be early signs of breast cancer.

Rhodes decided it was best to post a photo of her symptoms online as a warning to other women.

Rhodes’ post has been shared nearly 700 times, and she has been contacted by other women to thank her for sharing and for raising awareness.
