When Nawas Sharif defied the all-powerful army and attended the swearing-in ceremony of Prime MInister Narendra Modi in May 2014, it was felt the veteran Pakistan politician may have finally come into his own to shape ties with India, with a decisive role for the civilian establishment in Islamad.

പാകിസ്താനില്‍ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി നവാസ് ഷെരീഫ് പോകുന്നതോടെ പാക് ഭരണത്തില്‍ സൈന്യം കൂടുതല്‍ പിടിമുറുക്കുമെന്നാണ് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ കണക്കുകൂട്ടല്‍. പാകിസ്താനില്‍ ജനാധിപത്യ സര്‍ക്കാരുകളുടെ തുടര്‍ച്ച ഉറപ്പുവരുത്തുമെന്ന പ്രതീക്ഷ നവാസ് ഷരീഫ് നിലനിര്‍ത്തിയിരുന്നു. പാകിസ്താനില്‍ ജനാധിപത്യ സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ തുടരുന്നതാണ് ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്ക് നല്ലത്. ചര്‍ച്ചകള്‍ക്ക് സാധ്യത തെളിയുന്നതും അത്തരമൊരു സര്‍ക്കാരുമായാണ്.
