Oregon is first to offer third gender option on official IDs

Oregon is showing its pride this month! On Thursday, the state became the first to offer a third gender identification for people who identify as neither male or female. As of July 3rd, Oregonians can choose an 'X' for 'not specified' as their gender. Oregon has been very progressive with LGBT rights, having been the first to elect an openly LGBTQ governor named Kate Brown. Basic Rights Oregon co-executive director Nancy Haque issued a statement on the change: "Our lives are so gendered, which is why it’s important that driver licenses and other forms of IDs recognize people who are non-binary."
