Syrian Democratic Forces Remove IS Flag From Tabqa Dam, Unfurl Their Own Flags

The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces said on May 10 that they had “completely” liberated Tabqa city and the nearby dam from Islamic State.Video posted on May 11 showed soldiers removing the flag of IS from Tabqa Dam, which is also known as the Euphrtes Dam,and unfurling their own flags.After initial liberation of the dam, footage was later released showing SDF member Ahmed Mohamed giving a tour of the facilities, and highlighting damage to the buildings.A press release by US Central Command stated that the SDF accepted the surrender from IS “in order to protect and secure the Tabqa Dam infrastructure which hundreds of thousands of Syrians rely on for water, agriculture, and electricity”.
