Syrian Democratic Forces Advance to East Bank of Euphrates, Claim Capture of Islamic State Fighters

A militia allied with US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces captured the town of Al-Shaheel, on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River south of Deir Ezzor, Syria, on November 13, after fighting with Islamic State forces.In this footage, SDF fighters fire machine guns through a hole in a wall. The town is located close to Al-Omar oil fields, which the SDF also control.In a statement to local media, a spokesperson for the international coalition backing SDF and led by the United States said its troops aimed to win control of the remaining territory the Islamic State holds on the eastern side of the Euphrates, and to gain control of Al-Bukamal.Syrian government forces approached the outskirts of Al-Bukamal on November 9.
