Cop fired after fatal shooting of black teen Jordan Edwards

BALCH SPRINGS, TEXAS — A Texas police department has admitted its original story about the events leading up to the fatal shooting of a black teen was wrong, and have fired an officer who involved in the shooting.
Jordan Edwards, 15, died last Saturday night when police officer Roy Oliver fired several rifle shots into a car that was driving away from a house party in the Dallas suburb of Balch Springs.
Balch Springs Police Chief Jonathan Haber initially said the car was driving “aggressively” towards Oliver, BBC News reported.
But after reviewing body camera footage, Haber said the car was, in fact, driving away.
Oliver and another officer were responding to a report of drunk teenagers when they showed up at a house party.
The officers were inside the house when they heard gunfire, Dallas News reported.
Edwards and four other teens also heard the shots, and decided it would be a good idea to get the hell out of there.
But as Edwards left the scene, he was struck in the back of the head by a bullet from Oliver’s rifle.
Friends and teachers described Edwards as a straight-A student, talented football player, and all-round great kid. He hadn’t been drinking alcohol at the party.
The department said Oliver’s behavior did not meet its core values.
The bodycam footage has not been released.
