George Will Calls Trump’s Inaugural Address ‘The Most Dreadful...In History’

George Will, a conservative commentator and outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, has called his inaugural address “the most dreadful...in history.”

Conservative commentator George Will has said that President Trump “delivered the most dreadful inaugural address in history.”
On January 20, the longtime columnist and Trump critic made the comment in a Washington Post op-ed where he criticized Trump’s use of the phrase “American carnage.”
During his speech, the president described problems in the U.S. related to poverty, empty factories, drugs, and crimes, when he said, “This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.”
Will responded by writing, in part, “Oblivious to the moment and the setting, the always remarkable Trump proved that something dystopian can be strangely exhilarating: In what should have been a civic liturgy serving national unity and confidence, he vindicated his severest critics by serving up reheated campaign rhetoric…”
Will ended the column by mentioning the government’s system of checks and balances because, as he quoted James Madison, “Enlightened statesmen will not always be at the helm.”
In June 2016, Will announced his decision to leave the Republican party over its support of Trump, telling conservative voters, “Make sure he loses.”
His column from that month called Trump a “narcissist” and criticized his disparaging comments about John McCain.
Trump, meanwhile, responded by calling Will “...one of the most overrated political pundits...”
