FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA — A man opened fire in the baggage claim area of Terminal 2 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida on Friday, killing at least five people and wounding more.

The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Esteban Santiago, who possess a military ID. Santiago travelled on Delta flight 1088 from Anchorage to Minneapolis on Thursday evening, landing on Friday morning. He then took Delta flight 2182 from Minneapolis to Fort Lauderdale airport, arriving Friday afternoon.

After arrival, Santiago claimed his bag from the baggage claim and went to the restroom, where he reportedly took out his gun and loaded it, CBS Miami reported.

He then began shooting at people in the baggage claim area until he ran out of bullets. At least five people were killed and eight more people were wounded.

A witness told MSNBC that Santiago threw his gun to the ground and lay down after the gunfire stopped.

It is reported by CBS Miami that the suspect got into an argument during his flight from Alaska to Florida, which is being investigated as the potential reason for the shooting rampage.
