Ashley Madison agrees to $1.7 million settlement

Ashley Madison, a online dating website for adulterers, agreed to pay $1.7 million in settlement fees between several U.S. states and the federal government. The website was being sued because of 'fraudulent business practices' that, among other things, involved users paying for data to be permanently deleted, only for that data to then be stored away. In 2015, Ashley Madison was the target of a huge data hack that compromised all of its customers data, including emails, names, home addresses, sexual fantasies and credit card information. As part of the settlement, the company, now named Ruby Corp, agreed to "cease engaging in certain deceptive practices, to not create fake profiles, and to implement a stronger data security program."
