A pumpkin cannon is comprised of three main parts: a valve, an air chamber with large compressors; and a tube that is long enough for the pumpkin to travel fast.

To fire a pumpkin, the cannon’s air chamber needs to be filled up with compressed air, then open up the valve as quickly as possible. This allows the pressurised air to rush out of the chamber and down the barrel.

With enough speed and force, the air can shove the pumpkin out at an incredible rate of speed. The cannon’s average range is between 2,500 feet and 5,000 feet.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the holder for "Farthest Distance to Fire a Pumpkin" belongs to “Big 10 Inch” with a impressive 5,545.43 feet.
