PHOENIX — Surveillance footage released by Phoenix authorities shows the moment a crazed driver mows down three police officers.
The incident happened at around 2 a.m. on Tuesday when, police say, Marc LaQuon Payne, 44, drove intentionally at the officers. Video shows him hitting the cops, then their patrol car and crashing into the front of the gas station
All three officers were injured but survived the crash and managed to subdue and arrest Payne following the accident.
A police sergeant suffered a broken leg and another escaped with a minor injury. According to the Associated Press, one officer, who was sent airborne after being struck by the front of the car, was on his first day of the job. He suffered a head injury.
CBS 5 Arizona reports that police believe Payne targeted the officers and acted intentionally. They say he’ll likely face attempted murder and aggravated assault charges for the incident.
