On Tuesday, Donald Trump told a crowd in Greenville, North Carolina that, if elected, he will give high ranking military officials 30 days to come up with a plan to defeat ISIS, reports ABC News.
Not long after, Retired Army Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling appeared on CNN's AC360 and characterized Trump’s proposed order as "simplistic" and "sophomoric."
He said to host Anderson Cooper, “I had to ask myself, what the hell does he think we've been trying to do for the last 14 years in terms of al Qaeda?"
Hertling also commented, “It shows a complete lack of understanding of the threat and the ways to fight it."
Notably, Trump indicated earlier in his campaign that he already had a foolproof plan to crush ISIS but declined to release the details.
His comments on the matter were largely limited to, as he told a crowd in Connecticut, "I have a great plan. It's going to be great.”
