Brett McGurk has reportedly resigned over President Trump's decision to withdraw US troops from Syria.

The top U.S. envoy in the fight against ISIS has reportedly submitted his resignation in response to President Trump's decision to pull troops out of Syria.
According to CBS News, Brett McGurk let Secretary of State Mike Pompeo know Friday that he would be stepping down before his planned departure in February over the strong policy disagreement.
His last day on the job has reportedly been moved up to December 31.
The early resignation comes just days after Trump released a video on Syria, saying, "We have won against ISIS...Our boys, our young women, our men — they're all coming back, and they're coming back now."
The abrupt announcement has been controversial, with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis also resigning in the wake of the decision.
Meanwhile, Trump has vigorously defended the move.
"Getting out of Syria was no surprise," Trump tweeted on Thursday. "I've been campaigning on it for years, and six months ago, when I very publicly wanted to do it, I agreed to stay longer. Russia, Iran, Syria & others are the local enemy of ISIS. We were doing there work. Time to come home & rebuild. #MAGA."
