Ellicott City Man Almost Swept Away While Attempting to Save Woman

A man was almost swept away by fast-moving floodwaters while trying to save a woman stuck in her car in Ellicott City, Maryland, on Saturday, July 30. Sara Arditti, who took this video, said Jason Barnes “risked his life” to reach the woman whose car was being washed away. Barnes then formed a human chain with a number of men and successfully helped the woman out of her car.Severe floods swept through the streets of Ellicott City on Saturday, killing at least two people and destroying as many as five buildings on Main Street. The National Weather Service recorded 6.5 inches of “historic heavy rainfall” on Saturday. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan declared a state of emergency for Howard County. Credit: Sara Arditti
