MILWAUKEE — The killing of Sylville Smith, 23, by police on August 13 set off a wave of anger-fuelled protests in the Sherman Park neighborhood he died in.

The identity of the cop who shot him has since been released, where it was previously kept disclosed. Officer Dominique Heaggan-Brown shot Smith in the chest and arm. As it turns out, the two knew each other, having attended Pulaski High School together many years ago.

Haeggan-Brown is also an amateur rapper, going by the name KB Domo. In one of his songs, he says, “Imma start a riot like it’s Baltimore” referring to the city-wide protests that resulted from the death of Freddie Gray, who died while in police custody last year. It’s a lyric that has the internet is zeroing in on as the two-year cop is being scrutinized for his motive behind fatally shooting Sylville Smith.

Some in the community have reportedly claimed Officer Heaggan-Brown was known for bullying citizens, while others point to the fact that Smith was armed with a stolen gun in hand, giving the officer just cause to shoot him down.
