A Chinese tourist who set out to see the sights in Europe ended up spending 12 days in a German refugee center.

A 31-year-old Chinese tourist who set out to see the sights in Europe was visiting the German city of Heidelberg when something went terribly wrong.
After attempting to report a stolen wallet, the man ended up spending 12 days in a German refugee center, notes The Guardian.
Red Cross staffers noticed he seemed a bit out of place there, as the individual was wearing very nice clothes and kept asking for his passport.
Unfortunately, the man wasn’t well versed in German, and staffers didn’t understand Mandarin, reports The Local.
Workers at an area Chinese restaurant suggested the use of a translation app, and soon what had happened was revealed.
When the tourist had gone to report the loss of his wallet at a city hall, which he assumed was a local police station, he was somehow given an asylum request form. According to NBC News, the man signed the document and was transported to a refugee center.
After the mix-up was discovered, the tourist did get to resume his vacation, and, according to shelter workers, didn’t seem overly upset by the delay.
However, he did note that Europe wasn’t what he anticipated.
