Man Plays With Rattlesnake, Ends Up Spending Days Hospitalized And Sedated

A Coolidge, Arizona man attempted to impress friends by doing a bit of rattlesnake wrangling. He got bit in the process and was hospitalized for several days.

There are many ways to show off in front of a crowd, but some are certainly less advisable than others.
Among the activities topping the ‘just don’t’ category is rattlesnake wrangling, which is something Victor Pratt of Coolidge, Arizona, now knows all too well.
The 48-year-old father said he wanted to show those gathered at his son’s early September birthday party how to capture and cook up one of the venomous reptiles, notes the Arizona Republic.
He told KSAZ that upon catching one he saw an opportunity to impress his guests and began playing around and posing with the potentially deadly creature.
The rattlesnake apparently wasn’t in the mood to be either entertainment or dinner, and bit Pratt on the face.
Thankfully, Pratt made it to the hospital within the 15 to 30 minute survival window, and doctors were able to shove a breathing tube down his throat before strangulation-level swelling set in.
He was then airlifted to another medical center, where he spent the next 5 days under sedation and receiving a reported 28 doses of antivenom.
After regaining consciousness, Pratt assured a reporter with the Arizona Republic that he, “Ain't gonna play with snakes no more."
