CLEAR BROOK, VIRGINIA — A woman was injured after she fell nearly three stories from a carnival ride at a county fair on Monday night, police said.

The 47-year-old woman was at the Frederick County Fair, where she was strapped into a ride called the Super Shot around 7 p.m., according to a statement by the Frederick County Virginia Sheriff’s Office.

As the ride was descending, the woman’s seat “came detached from the main frame of the ride and struck the ground,” authorities said.

The woman plunged about 40 feet to the ground.

She was rushed to Winchester Medical Center with multiple injuries, police said.

The Super Shot is a vertical drop ride that takes 12 passengers 120 feet into the air and then releases them in a free fall with a maximum speed of 47 mph, according to the Larson International website, which makes the ride with A.R.M. Inc.

The cause of the accident is currently being investigated by the Frederick County Building Inspections Department.
