DALLAS — Thursday’s shooting in Dallas during a peaceful protest resulted in 12 officers and two civilians shot; five officers have died.

Here’s what we know of the victims:

Brent Thompson, 43, was the first to be identified by Dallas Area Rapid Transit. Thompson is the first DART officer to be killed in the line of duty. Thompson was a newlywed with six adult children from a previous marriage. He recently welcomed his third grandchild.

Navy vet Patrick Zamarripa was identified by his family. He was married with a toddler and school-age stepchild. Zamarripa did three tours in Iraq with the Navy. He would have been 33 next month.

Michael Krol, 40, was identified by his former employer, the Wayne County Sheriff's Department in Michigan.

“We are saddened by the loss of the dedicated officers in Dallas — one of whom was a former member of this agency — and also the wounding of the other officers,” Sheriff Benny Napoleon said in a written statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families and also the Dallas Police Department.”

Other wounded DART personnel were identified as Officer Omar Cannon, 44, who joined the DART force in July 2009; Officer Misty McBride, 32, who joined in March 2010; and Officer Jesus Retana, 39, who joined in April 2006.

Two civilians were also wounded. One of the civilians ID-ed as Shetamia Taylor was a protestor, who was shot in the calf while shielding her two sons. She underwent surgery early Friday and is expected to recover.

Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings lead prayers at a vigil held in memorial of the victims on Friday, July 8.

The attack is being called the deadliest for cops since 9/11, and is one of the worst in Dallas history.
