FORT HOOD, TEXAS — Three U.S. Army soldiers died in an accident this week during flooding that has devastated the state of Texas.

On Thursday, a Light Medium Tactical Vehicle carrying 12 soldiers was driving near the Fort Hood military base.

According to a news release from the Fort Hood Press Center, the vehicle overturned and three soldiers were killed, while another three were rescued near the vehicle and are in stable condition. The other six remain unaccounted for.

The Army is withholding the identities of the dead soldiers until their families have been notified.

Floodwaters in Texas have caused massive problems for the state this week, swelling
riverbanks and forcing many people to evacuation shelters, Reuters reported.
