Police consider criminal charges after Cincinnati Zoo gorilla’s death

Authorities in Cincinnati are considering possible criminal charges following an incident at a local zoo last weekend that left a 17-year-old gorilla dead after a boy fell into its enclosure. Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters said the Cincinnati Police Department is investigating the controversial shooting death of the zoo’s male western lowland gorilla named Harambe. According to a zoo director, the 420-pound gorilla was shot dead instead of tranquilized because the anesthetic would have taken too long and may have "created alarm” in the animal.
