Oops! Cars parked on Wisconsin's frozen Lake Geneva sink into the water

LAKE GENEVA, WISCONSIN — Guess what! If you park on a frozen lake, there is a chance your car might actually sink.

And that's exactly what happened in Wisconsin. Drone footage shows the moment when several vehicles parked on frozen Lake Geneva started sinking.

People gathered at the lake for the celebrations of the popular Winterfest, a festival that features the U.S. National Snow Sculpting Competition and includes activities such as human sled racing and helicopter rides.

The lucky owners of five of the vehicles managed to drive their cars out of the lake, but 10 more vehicles were submerged by the water and saw a substantial amount of damage.

Fortunately, no one was in the cars when they began to sink.

It seems that police gave permission to drivers to park on the ice as available parking lots during the festival were scarce. One of the cars' owners however was quoted by Reuters as saying that people park on the lake all the time.

Well, we're guessing this will be their last time doing that.
