Peru: Strike Against Mining Projects Ended with Promise of Dialogue

After five days of protests in the Apurimac region in south-central Peru against the Las Bambas mining project that ended with four demonstrators killed, organizers suspended a 48-hour general strike. The move was made in response to an offer by President Ollanta Humala for a dialogue between his ministers and residents who reject the mining operations due to their high environmental cost. On Tuesday authorities declared a state of emergency in the face of the violent protests. teleSUR
