Peru: Gov't to Open Dialogue on Tia Maria Mining Project

The Peruvian government will open a new dialogue with residents of the southern province of Arequipa concerning the Tia Maria mining project. The controversial transnational project has sparked massive protests, including a 72-hour hunger strike that ends today and a three day protest in the Tampo Valley. Peruvian and international mining companies are meeting in Arequipa while civil society organizations from across the country are holding a parallel People's Summit.
